Error: Installing Feb CTP Build (Version: 2000.90.1090.0)

Today I was trying to install the SQL Server 2005 Feb CTP build on my Windows 2003 Server on a VPC environment. But the setup keeps failing stating:

“Installing Microsoft SQL Server 2005 CTP setup support files.

Then the setup program produces the following error: Error 1203 - No network provider accepted the given network path“

This was a strange error. I restarted my VPC instance and tried all sorts of activity. It just didnt get past the support files stage. A complete road block. Then I decided to read the Release Notes. And under the OS requirements 3.3.2 I see this note:

Note :There is no support in this release for Virtual Server, Virtual PC, Windows 2003 Embedded Edition, Windows Small Business Server 2003 Standard Edition, Windows Small Business Server 2003 Premium Edition, Windows XP Home, Windows XP Media Edition, Windows XP Tablet Edition, or Windows "Longhorn."

I thought “Gosh !!! Give me a break!!!“. Has someone really tried to install this CTP build on a VPC? Or am I missing something here. I dont plan to install the Beta version on my host machine. Ideas welcome !!!

Have a long weekend, hope to see some resolution to this problem.

I'm having the same problem today. I do not care about SQL Server 2005 but I'm required to install it in order to run Team Foundation Server. I have SQL Server 2005 running on VPC but it was installed before the image was created. Now I need Analysis Services and Reporting Services which I cannot install for the same reason you state above. Have you had any luck since your note on 3/24? Thanks Bob, robertdunaway@usa.net

The error was resolved once I copied the whole contents into the VPC disk. The installation went through without any problems.
